My son normally wants a cheesecake for his birthday but this year, after seeing all the cakes I have made, he decided to have me make his cake. Being extremely obsessed with Pokemon right now, he suggested a Pokeball. Perfect! So we started planning...
We didn't want to carve a sphere shaped cake (because that takes time, and can go wrong really easily) so we chose to make it out of a 10in round cake and just have the "illusion" of a sphere. :)
I had my son help out a lot, since this is a pretty simple cake. We dyed half of our vanilla buttercream a dark red and covered half of the cake. Then covered the other half with white; the very messy line where those two colors meet was covered up with the black fondant stripe.
My son cut 3 fondant circles (one black, two white) and placed them in the center.
My son was so happy and pleased with the final product, and that's all the approval I needed! :) It was a fun project and I loved it!
